Aping Around

So do you all remember in this post where I mentioned that we were heading to the zoo when we broke down?
Well, today is the day I tell you why!!
About a year ago, we went to a zoo and Michael and I absolutely loved it! This zoo is actually the WORLD primate centre which meant that we spent the day admiring all sorts of monkeys and apes.We thought it would be such an awesome job to work with animals, particularly primates of some description.
Well, to make a long story short, one day, Michael had the great idea to e-mail the zoo up and see if they needed any help doing research with any of the animals.
They responded saying they would so love any help that we could give them as they had a few things that needed researching and didn't have enough people to handle it.
So we headed to the zoo and talked to one of the managers there as well as one of the zookeepers that worked with the Gorillas. The gorillas have been exhibiting some abnormal behaviours in captivity that they don't in the wild and they wanted us to run a study on them to find out what was causing these behaviours and also to see if we could help find a solution to them so that they could improve the gorillas quality of life.
So, for the last couple every months, every couple of weeks or so we head over to the zoo and study our Gorillas! I am absolutely loving it! It is amazing that they have such different personalities, it's just fascinating to watch. Here are the three that we are working with.

This is Oumbi. He is a great male Gorilla, so strong and powerful. He is the head of the group in his enclosure, which consists of him and two females.

Check out his muscles!

This is Ozala. She is a quiet gorilla and likes to keep to herself. She lost her baby last year and then had a miscarriage about two months ago. She usually keeps far away from us, but she is sweet.

Ozala taking a nap on Wednesday.

This is Asante. She is really friendly and always comes up to the glass to check us out when we arrive. She was raised for 7 years by humans and thinks she is more human than gorilla actually. In fact, she won't mate with Oumbi at all. She has a sweet face and is very inquisitive.

How could you not love this face?

Well, there you have it folks, the introduction to my adorable new friends! Stay tuned for more!

So this past Friday, we attended a special awards dinner in London that we were invited to which celebrates different achievements of people that have been paralyzed while doing sports. It was at an incredible hotel on Park Lane in the heart of London and was just awesome!!
We enjoyed a gourmet 3-course dinner in the most beautiful room and then enjoyed some speeches. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take any photos but we did end up having a couple of hours afterwards to enjoy some of the nearby sights!

Yeah..these clouds were NOT photo-shopped..amazing, huh?

Buckingham palace in the sunlight!

Getting all Artsy Fartsy..

A cute man - he just kept following me everywhere I went - ha!

'Til next time, Cheerio Dahlings!!

Another Sister..

Well, I'm back from another great trip across the big pond! And this time it was to see and be a part of my BABY brothers wedding day! It must drive him crazy me saying that, as I must admit, he's not much of a baby anymore. We couldn't be happier for him and his new wife.
What a happy day it was, I wanted to share a few pictures that I managed to snap...

I love this one of my dad congratulating the two of them and presumable welcoming Angela to our family...

In the Limo..

ok, I clearly didn't take this shot..

This has got to be my favourite from the day...totally un-posed, walking down some steps. They both look so so happy!

The tables looked amazing!

and the cake was enough to take your breath away!
It was made by a friend of the family!
What an unbelievably talented woman!

Check out the seashells made from sugar..don't they look so real?

Yup, Incredible!

The happy Groom and smiley Bride leaving....
